I loved watching the king (2019) online. Timothée Chalamet had this dark look to him and a voice that just sang well for such a powerful character. The issue I’d have with this is, at the middle of the story, I ended up asking myself “what is the point of this movie?”. But unlike most movies or TV shows where you ask this question and toss that movie aside, this one pulls you along. In the end, it all fits. A prevailing theme of the movie that you may easily dismiss. There were times where I thought the full movie would be about several things. Fighting a civil war or about surmounting a coup from family members. But it was not so.
Anyways, I’d give this a read. Each character played the story well. I actually did not recognize Robert Pattinson, but he played the character well. Ben Mendelsohn’s role seemed ill-used, though. I didn’t see much purpose for free download and the use of that character in the story. But it could be one of the subtler messages to bolster the theme. The “I have interests here” remark. But everyone was perfect for the roles they were cast. Simply, loved it. Sean Harris and Joel Edgerton were amazing. And Lily-Rose Depp, who I am hearing of the first time, played excellently.
In short a masterclass of a film. The movie is well paced and the full story is very intriguing. The performances are outstanding, especially Chalmet in the lead and Pattinson when he shows up. The action sequence towards the end is one of the best filmed fighting scenes you will encounter. The ending is also surprising as well. This is truly a great Netflix film to watch. Just rmember that the movie is Not historically accurate.
