This full movie is HORRENDOUS! If you are looking for a fun, Christmas film, or even a Groundhogs Day knockoff, don’t watch this film. Pete is the middle child, and often gets overlooked and abused by his family. Because of this, it’s exceptionally cruel to make your main story-line one where he is responsible for “fixing Christmas”. Two parents, buying only one present for each kid, chose to buy the oldest a football (~$20) and the youngest a telescope but COMPLETELY FORGOT to buy their middle child a gift, not even free download ?!? Let me tell you, I’ve heard that line before from my parents… for multiple Christmases in a row… it’s called abuse.
Then when his older brother destroys the tree and blows the power, and blames Pete, the family all continue to use passive aggressive abuse throughout the day against Pete and refuse to acknowledge their own faults. Quite understandably, during one of Pete’s first ‘repeats’, he acts out by giving himself the telescope (a gift he actually asked for, despite his families claims of not knowing what to buy him) and you can’t help but sympathize with Pete. Still, it’s both cruel and sadistic to expect a young teenage boy to fix all the failings of his family on Christmas to ‘end the constant repeat’. Pete not only has to deal with typical teen issues, but he is ‘required’ to mend the broken relationship between his father and grandfather, as well as completely repair a family heirloom that was broken before the loop began… all while preventing his brothers from destroying Christmas. I’m not sure how old Pete is suppose to be in this movie, but since he has an older brother who is in high school, at THE MOST he’s 16, but he feels around 14 or 15. That’s a lot of adult responsibility to put on a child! I free downloaded the movie and it reminded me of my abusive childhood so much… It makes me wonder WHAT was going through the minds of the writers and directors.
